Who am I?
My name is Helen Sanders and I have been a counselling psychotherapist in Hull for the past 6 years.
I really believe therapy works because I’ve been there and done it and it worked for me. Therapy helped me learn who I really am, how to be OK with who I really am and even more importantly for me, how I can keep myself OK when in relationship with other people.
I’m a person just like you. I have been in therapy and it was from that life changing experience I decided I wanted to train as a therapist too.
I chose to train as a Transactional Analyst because it had aided me in radically changing my life and as a client myself I found the theory easy to understand and work with. I went from adapting who I am to fit in with others wants and needs to be able to be my real self and proud of who I am.
What can therapy do for you?
When we meet we will explore why you have come, what you want out of it and what is the cause of your unease. From here we will establish a way of working together which will aid you getting what you ultimately want from therapy as well as considering how you might stop yourself from getting it.
Coming to therapy can help you to:
- Identify harmful patterns of behaviour you’re in and explore ways of being different
- Re-connect with your feelings
- Re-discover your spontaneity
- Explore your close relationships and improve your interactions
- Have a safe space to work through and experience difficult feelings with a trained professional
- Share thoughts you have never verbalised
- Connect with another person and be seen for who you really are
- Put down the heavy burdens you have been carrying
- Make connections with past experiences which are impacting on the present and work through them in safe surroundings.
Coming to therapy is a brave thing to do. I waited a long time before I finally decided to speak to someone. Don’t do what I did and waste time, reach out and find out if I can help you.
I have practised as a therapist for six years and have been self-employed in private practise for 5 years now. It’s been a very exciting time with a massive learning curve and I hope you will be able to see the enthusiasm I have for working creatively, ethically and compassionately with others through this website as well as being committed to providing counselling and psychotherapy in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment.
I have ten years’ experience working in the voluntary sector with young people and adults from diverse backgrounds all over the city of Hull allowing me to grow into and develop my skills working in respectful, empowering and client centred ways.
I have a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and a Diploma in Psychotherapy both gained from The Ellesmere Training and Psychotherapy Centre in Hull. I’m a member of the BACP.
